Quite recently I have really gotten into facemasks. My skin hasn’t been looking great so I have been testing out a few that seem to have helped it clear up, with three different types of them being from the Iroha Charcoal skincare range. Admittedly, I have never tried any charcoal products before but apparently charcoal is one of those ingredients with a huge range of benefits.
Benefits of Charcoal Skincare
I have never actually used any skincare products with charcoal being the main ingredient, but I have heard about the many benefits of it. Charcoal is an active skincare ingredient with huge anti-bacterial properties. It works by drawing out bacteria and dirt, bringing them to the surface of the skin to help clear pores and leave you with deeply detoxed skin. It is an ingredient known to help fight acne, making it an extremely popular ingredient to use in face masks.
I was given the chance to try out three of the Iroha skincare products from the charcoal range. So here is how I got on with each…
Iroha Charcoal Peel-off Detox Mask* – £4.99
When I first saw this mask I did freak out just a little bit after seeing all those videos of people using the deep cleaning blackhead masks and how painful it looked to peel off. I thought this was a similar product and was so worried about how much it would hurt to use! Thing is, I need not have worried as it wasn’t painful in the slightest!
I applied the product to cleansed skin, with a particular focus on the application around my t-zone. My forehead has been the worst for horrible spots. The ones that are quite small, but there are lots of them and they are all under the skin. I really wanted to bring out the dirt and bacteria in that area so I made sure that I had a good layer of the facemask there. After leaving it for 15 minutes, I went to start peeling it off but realised I had made some areas a little too thick so just left it for another 5 minutes. Once the facemask was all dry, I peeled it upwards starting from my chin. This helped ensure that any dirt/blackheads were being pulled away from the skin. Also, I need to emphasise that this was not painful in the slightest!
When I came to look at the remnants of the face mask, there were a few bits that had been removed from my face but there wasn’t a hugely significant amount. Although, it had helped remove a few patches of dead skin *gross*. I kind of did expect it to do a little more in terms of removing blackheads and that sort of thing, but I guess it did to quite a good mini detox of my skin. My skin felt really refreshed and it definitely helped with the situation on my forehead. I should also mention that this little sachet most definitely gives you enough for more than one use!
Iroha Charcoal Nose Detox Strips* – £5.99
These were by far my favourite product from the range. I have tried a few other brands of nose strips in the past, but I can honestly say that none of the others have worked as well as these did. So like the others, you wet your nose then apply the nose strip for 10-15 minutes and peel it off when dry. Working from each side to bring it to the middle, to ensure it catches the blackheads.
I didn’t actually think I had many blackheads on my nose but when I removed the nose strip I was so grossed out! It definitely cleared my nose up, and it looked so much clearer after one day. Particularly on the areas just under my eyes as I had been having problems there with spots.
For £5.99 you get 5 strips, which I think is a really good deal. It works out around £1.20 a strip, and considering how well they work, I would definitely pay that. When I run out of these I will be buying some more so that I can use them on a regular basis.
Iroha Charcoal Tissue Detox Mask* – £3.99
I love tissue masks, mainly because they are so easy to use and not as messy as regular face masks. This charcoal tissue mask worked an absolute treat. It contains hyaluronic acid, a really popular skincare ingredient.
When I first opened the packet I was really surprised at actually how saturated the facemask was. It was completely soaked, which meant that my whole face was able to absorb a good amount of the product for the 15 minutes I left the mask on for. Applying it at first was so cold but I soon got used to it!
Taking it off I was left with a lot of product still on my skin so I just rubbed it all in. My skin instantly felt so much more hydrated and smoother. Surprisingly it helped a lot with the problem areas on my forehead. My cheeks, in particular, felt amazingly soft and looked quite glowy. I loved the instant effects that I got from using this facemask!
Overall I have really loved testing out these facemasks. The results I have received from using them have been really impressive and definitely promoted me to stock up on them. If I were to recommend one product from the three, it would have to be the nose strips. They work so well and I have never had those kinds of results from other brands. If you are interested in trying out some of the Iroha Charcoal skincare range, you can pick up these three products at Boots.
Have you ever tried charcoal skincare products before? What did you think of them?
*I was kindly gifted these products but all thoughts are my own.
