I am not an expert on SEO in any way, shape or form, but this is a post I have wanted to do for a long time after coming across a whole load of amazing free online SEO tools. These tools can help boost the SEO of any blog, so they are all worth having a look at. If you can get your SEO right, it can drive a huge amount of organic traffic to your blog, and that is what we all want right?!
There are a number of posts floating around in the blogosphere with lots of tips and tricks on how to enhance your blog’s SEO, so I am going to try and make this one a bit different. I want to focus on a few tools that aren’t commonly mentioned, so here goes!
1. BuzzSumo
This is a great tool to use when you are stuck with what content to produce on your blog. You just type in a topic onto BuzzSumo and it comes up with the most popular web pages surrounding that topic. It can help give a really good insight into the types of posts that would be successful with your audience.
2. Open Site Explorer
I usually use this for checking my domain authority, but you can also use it to check out your backlinks and find out which links could potentially be damaging to your blog. It also looks at the words and phrases most commonly used in your blog, to show what you could be ranking for in search engines.
3. Google
It might seem like an obvious one, but perhaps not for the reasons you would expect. I sometimes use google for its autofill option. For example, I want to write a blog post on my favourite mascara but I don’t know what to title the blog post. So I head over to google and type “top mascara” and underneath it comes up with lots of commonly searched terms to do with that phrase. Things like “top rated mascara” and “top drugstore mascara” pop up, so it helps me decide on a good title that will help people find my blog. Not the best example, but try using it and you will get a feel for how useful it actually is!
4. SEO Site Checkup
Probably one of my favourite tools to use. You enter in your blog URL and it does an SEO review of your blog. You will get back a ranking out of 100 on how good your site ranks. It assesses common SEO issues, Speed Optimisation, Server & Security and Mobile Usability. It will then give you tips on how you can improve each of these areas.
5. Copyscape
I know that it is rare that is happens, but there are some people out there that think it is ok to copy other peoples content- something that can really affect SEO ratings. This is a really easy tool used to see if someone has copied your content.
6. My Blog Guest
Guest blogging is a great way to get more inbound links back to your blog- an easy way to rank higher in the search engines. If you are looking for a blog to guest post on, try checking out My Blog Guest, a website that connects guest bloggers with guest owners.
7. SERPS Keyword Rank Checker
Maybe one for the more hard core SEO’s… With this tool you type in your blog URL and the keyword you are looking to rank for. It will take a while to load, but when it does it shows you exactly what spot you rank for, for that keyword. One tip, if it doesn’t finish loading it means that you don’t actually rank for that keyword. I learnt that the hard way… awkward!
