Matte lips are everything at the moment and I am definitely one for the trend – even though there was a severe lack of matte lip products in my collection. Well, that issue has now been sorted as I was very kindly sent the whole collection of Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipsticks.
The Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipsticks are a collection of highly pigmented lip products with a matte finish, claiming to last up to 24 hours. Their new smudge proof formula is a combination of hydrating waxes and oils and rich pigments, which provide a wash of beautiful, bold colour. I’ve been putting the claims to the test to see how they lived up to them…
This collection of lipsticks features a new tear drop style tip, said to help with precision when it comes to application. I have to admit that I do really like this style of lipstick as it is really good for applying the lighter shades precisely. However, I would say that as the tip is so small and pointed, it does have a tendency to crumble a little on first use. So for darker shades, I would definitely recommend using a lip brush to get a more precise finish. They would definitely also benefit from a good lip liner. The Bourjois Miraculous Contour Lipliner is perfect for use with any of the shades in this collection. It stops the darker shades from bleeding and smudging.
I absolutely love the formula of these lipsticks. I think matte lipsticks have the stigma of being really drying on the lips, but these are definitely far from it. They are in fact really moisturising and sit nicely on the lips without signs of cracking from being uber matte. I find the finish more like a satin-matte, which means you can apply them without any drag.
There are 12 shades in the collection and all are very pigmented and provide an intense wash of colour. The shades in the collection include:
01 Hey Nude! – This is like, the ultimate nude shade. Looks a bit like a concealer, so not really my cup of tea!
02 Flaming’rose – This is definitely a “my lips but better” kind of shade.
03 Hyppink chic – A teeny bit darker from the last shade, but a beautiful pink for everyday wear. Possibly my favourite from the collection.
04 Hip Hip Pink – This is another pinky shade with red undertones. I can see this being a good day to night colour.
05 Brique-à-brac – I also found this shade really similar to the one above but a teeny bit darker. I think it is quite an autumnal shade.
06 Abrico’dabra! – This is a beautiful peachy orange tone. Quite bold but definitely a bright one for summer months!
07 Joli carmin’ois – A lovely red shade with orange undertones.
08 Rubi’s cute – This is a classic red shade that everyone should have in their makeup collection!
09 Fuchsia botté – A gorgeous pink shades with blue undertones. I love this one for evenings.
10 Magni-fig – This is a much deeper purple shade, which is highly pigmented.
11 Berry formidable – Another fab autumnal shade, with its lovely burgundy tones.
12 Brunette – As a lipstick alone, it looks quite questionable, but on the lips, it is a gorgeous dark brown with red undertones. Not sure if it suits me, but I do really like it!
I did find the lasting power of the lipsticks to be good. The lighter shades didn’t stay as long, but that is usually the case with most lipsticks. The darker shades, however, were quite impressive. I wore 09, and it lasted all day, even after eating and drinking. I was left quite impressed!
These lipsticks come in at £8.99 each. In my opinion, that is the perfect price for a good quality matte lipstick. I would happily pay that for one of these lipsticks, were they to release more colours in the collection. I just love how hydrating they are at the same time as being matte.
