I will be honest, it is only recently that I have started opting for more adventurous lip colours. I used to be too scared to put them on, and with good reason… I am awful at applying anything with slight colour to my lips! I usually just end up with the wonkiest lips ever and just look ridiculous. But I have discovered how cotton buds can create miracles and fix my lipstick right up. So now that we are in autumn, I thought I would get a little more creative with my lip looks…
Kiko Asian Touch Matte Liquid Lipstick in shade 01* and Asian Touch Lip Pencil in shade 02*
The Liquid Lipstick from the Asian Touch collection at Kiko is beautiful. From the packaging to the formula, everything is spot on. It has a kind of lipgloss style applicator that easily glides across your lips. You just have to give it time to try before you experience the beautiful matte finish, as it does take a couple of minutes to dry. But once it has, the finish is lovely!
It isn’t heavy or drying in the slightest, and actually feels slightly hydrating?! I’m not sure if this is to do with the texture of the product, but it kind of feels a bit oily, but not greasy. I’m explaining it really badly, but basically it isn’t like any other liquid lipstick I have tried before. Unlike others, it isn’t gloopy or thick. It actually has a really liquid-y, thin texture to it, which is surprising considering it is matte finish. It does remain a little tacky after drying, so it isn’t completely smudge-proof, however I think that is the price you pay for having a non-drying matte lip! And because of the runny texture, I would always recommend wearing this with a lip liner as it does have a tendency to bleed slightly.
The lip liner also glides on beautifully. I like to completely coat my lips in this before putting on the liquid lipstick. It just gives it a nice base to sit on and then creates a beautiful ombré lip look. At first glance, this lipstick and lipliner duo look really mismatched. Like I didn’t expect them to go at all, but for some reason they just do. They dark lipliner makes the red a slightly deeper shade and gives off quite a vampy look. So I’m thinking this is perfect for Halloween!
Bourjois Rouge Velvet Matte Lipstick in shade 12 Brunette*
If you read my review on the Bourjois Velvet Matte Lipsticks, then you will know just how much I love these. The shade Brunette is a beautiful reddy – brown, which is literally the most perfect autumnal shade. The texture is creamy, and within a minute or so, it has dried to reveal a lovely matte finish. Again, like the Kiko lipstick, this is not a drying finish purely because it is such a creamy texture. It is also much easier to correct compared to the other two! This is such a longwearing lipstick so you don’t really need many top-ups throughout the day with these ones I find.
This shade isn’t too dark to wear during the day because of the brown tone. It looks absolutely gorgeous with golds and champagne shimmers, for a really lovely autumnal makeup look. Keep your eyes peeled for a future blog post coming soon…
Rimmel Lasting Finish Kate Lipstick in Shade 107
I couldn’t do an autumnal lip look without including a gorgeous berry shade! Berry shades are great because they suit everyone, regardless of their complexion or hair colour. It is just a great all-round colour that looks particularly good in autumn. And I think this is one of the most popular autumnal shades with bloggers…
The Lasting Finish lipstick has a velvety/satin texture to it so applies easily to give a lovely pigmented finish. As it is so pigmented, you can get the colour you want with just one application. It doesn’t really need to be built up – you can get an even finish with just one swish!
It is a matte shade but I wouldn’t say it is completely matte as it still has an ever so slight shine to it, so it isn’t a heavy or drying matte lipstick. I would say it is kind of an in-between formula. It doesn’t last all day, but it does last a significant amount of time and doesn’t go bad between applications.
