How to Make a Party Dress Casual

After the festive season, it is definitely safe to say that half my wardrobe is now filled with party dresses. 1. because you can never have too many and 2. because I am the kind of person that likes to buy a new dress for every occasion, regardless of the fact I probably have something more than suitable in my wardrobe already. So with the new stash of partywear, I thought I would do something a little different and a *shock horror* try and rewear my party dresses…

Now when I say rewear I also mean restyle. I’m always trying to restyle outfits so that they don’t look the same as the time I last wore them. Whether this be wearing them with a new necklace or different accessories. There are so many ways you can instantly change an outfit. But the challenge is, can you restyle a party dress but in a casual way?!

Yes, you most definitely can. And let me tell you now – it is super easy!

The answer is all in the layering – which is perfect in this disgustingly cold weather. You just need to find something that will go with the dress that can be layered underneath or over the top. For example with this outfit, the dress was originally a classic little black wrap dress with thin straps. It looks fab on its own as a party dress, but with this ASOS striped top underneath, you can instantly make it into a really easy casual outfit. You can then either go on to style it with a pair of Converse, or keep it looking kinda smart casj with a pair of heeled boots. I went with my fave patent heeled boots, which you will probably have noticed I have been wearing all Winter!

Striped Top – ASOS
Boots – New Look
Bag – Accessorize (Similar)
Necklace – Jewellery Box

But you don’t just have to layer underneath the dress. You could also layer over the top. Just by throwing on a baggy jumper over the top of a dress, you have instantly got a casual outfit going on that just looks like a skirt and jumper. This would especially work well if you have a super embellished, glittery party number that you want to tone down slightly.
