Last week I was lucky enough to attend the press evening of The Green Man Pub & Restaurant in Trumpington (Cambridge). It was in the
Along with a new style of interior was a lovely new menu filled with so many of my favourite dishes. So obviously, I was super excited to pay the pub a visit!
After arriving and being given a warm welcome, we were led through into the bar area, which is an absolute interior dream. With lots of little decorative details being added here and there, while still maintaining the rustic feel of the pub, I have to say they have done a great job with the renovation.
A really cute little gin bar had been set up for the evening, so straight away I knew what I wanted to drink. You could choose from lots of different pairings to go with your gin and tonic, which was a lovely little touch. I went for grapefruit and peppercorns - a combination that was actually very enjoyable!
Once we had all picked up our drinks, we were seated in a really cosy area with lots of plush cushions right next to the fire. It was here that we were brought over a very generously sized portion of delicious canapés including pork belly, scallops, falafel and mini camembert. Lots of the canapés were little tasters of dishes available as mains, and I have to say each one was amazing.
Once we had finished in the bar area, we were taken through to the newly refurbished dining area. The dining area is very dimly lit, which gives it a really nice atmosphere - take note if you’re looking for a good date night place! Again, each of the interiors was perfect and gave it much more of a restaurant feel than a country pub.
After a little browse of the menu, we had all decided on our starters and mains. I went for deep-fried brie to start and battered halloumi for mains. Yes, I went for double cheese, and no, I have no shame - I have been cutting out so much cheese from my diet recently so went a bit wild this evening… Hannah went for the lamb koftas to start and the buttermilk southern fried chicken for mains. While Sarah chose the duck pate and
Each of us couldn’t quite believe just how flavoursome and just all-round delicious both courses were. Honestly, there wasn’t a single thing any of us would have changed about the dishes. They were just so yummy!
Throughout both courses, we were kept topped up with some lovely drinks. Hannah and I weren’t driving so we were able to sample a few of the lovely cocktails such as the bellinis and candyfloss martinis - very strong, but very nice. Jo and Sarah tried out some of the mocktails, which they were really impressed with. These came out looking so much like real cocktails, even the waitress had to check that they were alcohol free!
Even though we were all very full from our delicious starters and mains, we obviously still had a little space left to try something from the new desserts menu. Hannah, Sarah and me all went for the home-baked triple chocolate cookie with bourbon vanilla ice cream. It might have just pushed us over the edge of going into a food coma, but it was definitely worth it.
I also need to add that all night, the staff were so attentive. Hannah doesn’t eat cheese so the manager, Antonio, was really accommodating to this and ensured that everything she ate was ok.
I will 100% be making my way back to The Green Man after getting a taste of their amazing menu. Not only does it have a great atmosphere, but a really extensive and delicious menu that will leave you drooling! I’ve also just seen that they do two cocktails for £10 Monday-Friday, 12-7pm, so what more excuse could I need?!
