Over the past year I have really been trying to shop a little more consciously and change a few of my day to day habits in order to live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. But one of the things I have never really thought about is shopping for jewellery. Do you really consider where jewellery has come from before you invest?
We all know that designer jewellery can be very spenny. But I was actually quite shocked to find out that the high prices aren’t due to the cost of the materials or production costs. It is actually because of the profit margins, which is more often than not, assigned a very high markup. This means that those working in production i.e. the craftspeople, their communities and even the planet, are all overlooked.
But this is where SACET comes in.
They are a jewellery brand with a huge conscience. They focus on creating beautiful jewellery but with a more sustainable approach.
With each piece of jewellery you order from SACET, it is custom-made by the designer. Each person responsible for crafting the jewellery has the opportunity to earn a fair pay, while the profit from the order will be invested back into the workshops and welfare of the craftspeople.
The metals used in creating the jewellery are 100% recycled, meaning that all the gold, platinum & silver used are both ethical and sustainable. Then when in comes to diamonds - wait for it, because this will blow your mind - they are lab-grown. Yep, you read right, the diamonds are grown in labs making them completely conflict-free but still looking visually identical to man-mined diamonds. My mind has been blown!
I was very kindly gifted two beautiful pieces from SACET’s collection. The Classic Pave Diamond Oval Necklace* and matching Classic Pave Diamond Oval Ring*. Both of which are absolutely stunning pieces and look so delicate. They are both the type of jewellery pieces that you can wear on a daily basis as they would go with just about anything! You can tell that so much care has gone into making these as they feel such good quality and just look so beautiful.
The necklace in particular is very simple but looks so eye-catching when worn. And I can wear it guilt-free knowing that it has been ethically sourced and crafted.
I’ve honestly never really had a second thought about shopping for ethical jewellery, but it is once you dig a little deeper you actually realise just how much of an impact businesses like SACET are making in the jewellery industry. Hopefully in the future, both you and I will be looking to shop more ethically when it comes to buying jewellery.
*I was kindly gifted these but all thoughts are my own.
